Financial Gifts to Support

the SOAPSTONE PRESERVATION ENDOWMENT

To preserve the integrity of the buildings and grounds and to promote their use as a historic site, friends of Soapstone Baptist Church and Mable Owens Clarke have established the Soapstone Preservation Endowment.

It will provide capital improvements necessary  to protect and promote the site's rich history. It will NOT cover day-to-day church expenses such as salaries and utilities.

The entire property is now under a perpetual conservation easement to ensure that, even if the building no longer functions as a church, its doors will remain open to promote the history of the formerly enslaved people who settled there more than 150 years ago and set about teaching the importance of faith, education and work.

The Soapstone Preservation Endowment is an autonomous not-for-profit with an independent Board of Directors. It is on its way toward the initial fundraising goal of $100,000.
